Welcome to the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure 2017!
Survivors are the stars of our Race. We honour and celebrate our courageous breast cancer survivors, who inspire us to continue the fight to end breast cancer forever. From the moment a person’s breast cancer diagnosis is confirmed, he or she is considered a survivor.
At the first Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure in January 2011, the Bahamian community came together to show support for survivors, their families and friends. Our survivors spent time in our beachfront survivor tent hosted by the Nassau Chapter of the Links, Inc. and enjoyed time together and a light breakfast. It was a moving moment as our survivors walked through the crowd and took to the stage serenaded by a combined choir made up of the best voices in the country under the direction of Mr. Cleophas Adderley. The Choir sang “When the Road Seems Rough” by Bahamian cultural icon, the late Clement E. Bethel. Bishop Neil C. Ellis, Senior Pastor of Mount Tabor Full Gospel Baptist Church lifted our survivors and their friends and families up in prayer. Students of The National Dance School of The Bahamas reminded us that a change will come with their stirring dance rendition to “A Change is Going to Come” by Sam Cooke. Our survivors then had the entire crowd moving when the DJ pumped up “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Gospel Duo MARY MARY then took to the stage in a special concert costarring our survivors!
The program was hosted by TV Journalist, Mr. Chester Robards of, Cable 12 News. Each survivor received a medal – presented by Mr. Caribbean, Mr. Don Ingraham. What a morning it was!
Registration is opening for the 2017 Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure on October 1st, 2016. Be one of over one hundred survivors to take part. More than 100 survivors were on hand for this year’s 6th Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure. If you were unable to participate in 2016, we hope you will register and be a part of the 2017 Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure. If you were able to participate in 2016, like the song says – let’s do it again!
We know the devastating effect that breast cancer has had in The Bahamas. Our young women in particular are at risk. Although we anticipate and applaud the tremendous medical and scientific advances in the fight against breast cancer, sometimes the best therapy is the knowledge that we are not alone in this fight. Together we can make a difference!
Breast cancer survivors may pick up their complimentary survivor shirt at the registration tent. Pink caps, ribbons and “In Memory Of” and “In Celebration of” back signs are available. Stop by the Survivor Tent for a special survivor’s-only breakfast.
Goody bags available at the Survivor Goody Bag tent after the start of the Race.
